What you will learn by working with horses with equine-assisted psychotherapy and Rising Strong TM:

• The critical role emotion plays in a behavioral change and the connections between emotion, thought and behavior. How horses are a natural barometer of human emotions!
• How offloading emotion moves us away from our values and corrodes our relationships. Working in relationship with the horses allows us to see what we are projecting on to them, instead of realizing that feeling and belief lives within us.
• The physics of vulnerability and the ten rules of engagement for Rising Strong. Horse are one of nature's most vulnerable species, in relationship to humankind. We learn to be our most vulnerable selves by working with prey animals, on the ground, realizing how much we influcence them at an emotional level. Our vulnerability makes us accessible to connecting with them.
• The difference between healthy striving or striving for excellence and perfectionism, and how perfectionism gets in the way of productive rumbles and tough conversations. Horses have a way of pulling against perfection, showing you how we have learned, unnaturally, to go against the flow of our own impulses in order to do things "right" or "perfect".
• The power of storytelling and story rumbles within our lives. We use horses, in our program, as potential characters in our stories. Amazing and spontaneous moments happend when we allow ourselves to be seen,through our stories.
• Workable strategies for getting back up after a fall or setback so we can live with greater courage. Working with horses, is an actionable and observable experience. We know that we get "do overs" and to "circle back" to learn the ability to find the opportunities in our stories of falls and failures. The horses help guide us through those walks of shame, or guilt, or fear.
• The correlation between our stories and the way we perceive our lives. The brain seeks to be "right" not "truthful". Horses never need to be right! They are, however, truth meters!
• The concept of BIG! Boundaries, integrity and generosity. Learning boundaries with a 1,800 pound being is a wonderful way to realize when you have let others walk all over you, or where your words and actions are not aligned for you and your relationships' highest good.
• Learning to use journalling, creativity, and new perspectives to help us write new endings to the stories of our falls and failures. We will rewrite our stories, by the end of the camp, and learn new endings, for which WE are the authors!
